SARAWAK ADVENTURE 1

DAY 01 ARRIVAL
Meet and greet at Kuching International Airport. Immediate city tour with visits to the Sarawak Museum which covers the ethnology and natural history of the region and the Civic Centre for a bird’s eye view of the cityscape. Drive through Chinatown and browse the Main Bazaar. This is site of the original trade settlement where development incorporates the heritage buildings from the era of the White Rajahs and the British. View the Square and Round Towers, the Astana, the Postal Office and the cornucopia of stores which have give rise to a new name for the street – the arts and crafts bazaar.
Visit Sarakraf Pavilion at Tabuan Road, a chinese-colonial style mansion houses a workshop where a wide range of crafts are demonstrated.
Transfer to hotel for check-in and leisure.
DAY 02 SEMENGGOH & BATANG AI LONGHOUSE RESORT
Depart for the Semenggoh Nature Reserve about 45 minutes from the city. The reserve is the last green belt for Orang Utans and other small animals, so near the city. The main attraction is the Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre which works with this endangered species to return them to their natural habitat. Feeding time is at 0900 & 1500 hrs daily and when most days, some Orang Utans will return for a meal as they may not be able to find enough food on their own.
Later, continue your journey to Batang Ai with a stop at the small town of Serian for your meal rations. This is also a chance for you to pick up some small gifts for the longhouse folks. Continue with your journey with a stop for lunch at Lachau. On your arrival at the Batang Ai lake-side, board a ferry to the resort.

DAY 03 MENGKAK LONGHOUSE
Breakfast at the resort. Depart to visit an Iban longhouse, Rumah Mengkak on one of the rivers that feed into the Batang Ai lake. Board native longboats for a journey upriver, travelling under the canopy of our rainforest.
The longhouse is a communal dwelling common to most of the tribal peoples of Sarawak and other parts of Borneo. The entire village lives in a long structure with biliks, one bilik for each family with some longhouses accommodating up to 30 families or more. They share a common area known as the ruai which runs the entire length of the longhouse. This is where they have their activities, wind down after a day of chores and entertain their guests/visitors.
Enjoy a traditional welcome by your hosts as they dance the Ngajat and serve tuak, their rice wine, to welcome you to their home. Your sociable Iban host will take you on a tour of their dwelling and you can participate in a blowpipe demonstration and a cockfight. Take a nature walk with a villager to learn about their surroundings. Take aboat ride up-river where you can enjoy a typical lunch cooked in bamboo. In the afternoon, return to the resort for dinner and overnight.
DAY 04 BATANG AI – KUCHING
Breakfast at the resort. Start your journey back to the city. Stop for lunch at the Ranchan Pool, overlooking a series of waterfalls. Continue on to Kuching for drop off at your hotel.

DAY 05 BAKO NATIONAL PARK
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning departure to visit the Bako National Park, the first gazette national park in Sarawak. Bako at 27 square kilometers is the smallest, yet is home to the widest range of eco-systems found in the state; swamp forests, scrub or padang vegetation, to dipterocarp, mangrove, cliff, beach and heath forests.
There are 16 trails that explore the diversity of the park. The most popular takes you in search of the shy pot-bellied Proboscis Monkeys. Catch them as they come to the riverbanks to feed before they head for the cool depths of the forests when the day heats up. Another popular trail explores the mangrove swamps where most of its denizens are equipped to live both on land and underwater. Lunch is provided at the Park canteen. Return to the city in the afternoon.
DAY 06 DEPARTURES
Free at leisure till transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
